Denim Chicken Pincushions

These denim chicken pincushions were sewn using scraps of denim fabric, only the smallest amount is needed and they are really fun to make.  Although most tutorials call them pincushions they are also a fun decoration and depending on the filling used, you could make them scented or use them as small weights when cutting sewing patterns.

Depending which way you want the chicken to sit depends on the final seaming of the square I tried both – one where the chicken is looking up and has tail pieces and legs, the other is a quicker version which is just the triangle with less detail.

The thickness of the denim wasn’t a problem and with clipped corners they turned out fine, mine were around 10-11cm square.  Pieces of denim were used for the features and orange crafting foam for the beaks as I did not have any felt to hand.

Images show squares of denim with the wings already sewn, remember to mirror them and face everything inwards so that when you turn the fabric the right way the features stick out.  The last image is before you flatten the square to form a pyramid.
