Knitted Reindeer

Christmas Knitted Reindeers, hats and scarves optional !.  For those who have my new Christmas gnomes pattern (2024) this is in a similar style of a sitting ornament.  The pattern is in written format, six pages in full colour with instructions and tutorial images so you can follow along and to knit the reindeers featured.  There is an option to finish the reindeer with or without the hat and scarf.  For a larger version the pattern can also be knitted in thicker yarn on bigger needles, details and images at the bottom of this post.

The Pattern is available from my Ravelry store.

There is a small charge for this pattern as it has had time and care put into the pattern and .pdf – For future I will only be charging for patterns which have taken a long time to design, test and document. The pattern has been designed for you to print and follow along.  I will continue to offer free patterns.

Happy Knitting!

To knit a larger version shown in the images below.  Two strands of yarn were used (dk), held together using size 6mm needles.

This one sits approx. 22cm high (8.5 inches) and 12.5/13cm (5 inches) wide.  A dark brown and a marl brown were used for the main colour (body, legs) and two strands of beige for the contrast colour.  You can still embroider the red nose or I have added a knitted nose which is written out at the bottom of this page.

This is the same knitting pattern and tutorial, using this method it has knitted up more of a cuddly toy size, soft and squishy.  I liked it 🙂 so am sharing this idea and version with you.

The first image is the large reindeer on its own and the second image shows two reindeer side by side to see the difference in size.  The knitted red nose and notes to work alongside the pattern are also below.

The pattern/tutorial is in full colour .pdf format, available here.  This larger version sits 22cm high (8.5 inches) 12.5/13cm wide (5 inches).  The image below shows the original and the large side by side.

The knitted red nose pattern is written out below, please also read the notes on assembly.

Pull through remaining 3 stitches and fasten off.
Gather edges with threaded needle and pull up, stuff lightly. Don’t overstuff or pull up too tight so that it forms more of a button shape rather than a round.  Do the same with the muzzle.

Attach the red nose to the muzzle in the same way you attach the muzzle to the body as shown in the pattern.

  • The circle of card used in this large version is 7cm (2.5inches).
  • The assembly is the same, image shows the version with a hat

Enjoy your reindeer makes.
