Mickey Crochet Hanging Ornament

Everyone loves the mouse!.  I recently made some hanging scented bags and wanted something a bit different.  This is a crochet pattern/amigurumi style worked in continuous rounds.  It can be made with or without the hanging cord. Size of finished hanging ornament from ear to foot is around 12/13cm – 5 inches.

Materials used in images:

(Left) shown using DK (double knitting/8ply) yarn using black yellow and red – 3.5mm crochet hook (Right in image) shown using Sirdar Happy cotton Red White, Black and Yellow – 3mm crochet hook. 

Abbreviations and Techniques needed:

The pattern is in written in US Terms. SC – Single Crochet, Dec – Decrease a stitch (2 stitches together), Inc – Increase a stitch (2 stitches into same stitch), Sts – stitches, change in stitch count is shown in brackets at the end of each round.  Worked in continuous rounds using a marker if required.

Instructions:

Body
1. In Black, Start a magic circle with 6 sts.
2.  Inc x 6 (12)
3.  (SC1, inc) x6 (18)
4.  (SC2, inc) x6 (24)
5-6.  2 rounds of SC
7.  SC3, inc, in red SC3, in black inc in next st, in red SC3, inc in next st in black, (SC3, inc) x 3 to end of round in black (30)
Change colour to red
8.  SC30 red
9.  SC30 red
10.  SC30 red
change to black and stay with black to end.
11.  (SC4, dec) x6 (25)
12.  SC25
13.  (SC3, dec) x5 (20)
14.  SC20
15.  (SC2, dec) x5 (15) *Stuff from here and keep stuffing to finish
16.  (SC1, dec) x5 (10)
17.  Dec x5 fasten off by threading a needle and pulling through remaining stitches to close.

Ears – make 2 in black
1.  Magic Circle with 6 sts
2.  (SC1, inc) x3 (9)

4-5.  2 rounds of SC

Slip stitch into next and fasten off. (this is the bottom of the ear to attach to body)

Feet – make 2 in yellow
1.  Magic Circle with 6 sts
2.  (SC1, inc) x3 (9)
3.  (SC3, inc) x2, SC the last st (11)
4.  SC11
5.  SC3, dec, SC3, dec, SC1 (9)
6.  (SC1, dec) x3 (6)
Work 2 decreases and fasten off

The black legs are just a thin crochet cord between 4/5cm approximately (between 1.5 and 2 inches) long, make any sort of cord you know how. You could just do a foundation chain and then tie the ends.  If you are a knitter, by casting on stitches and then casting them off also forms a chain cord.

Sew two small circles as shown in the images for the buttons on the trousers (which also look like eyes). Assemble as shown in image 3 above.  Sew the ears to the body, attach the feet to the legs and sew to the body.  Make a cord for hanging, attach at the top of the head.
