IKEA Knitted Bowl Covers

This pattern is to knit covers for Ikea Fryken baskets (seagrass boxes with lids ) giving you a striped chunky texture bowl as shown.  These have been available at IKEA for some years now and alot of homes will already have these.  Search google for “Ikea Fryken”, available from Ikea, eBay and Amazon – these are required to achieve the shape as shown in the images.  However, I have included an option here in the how to.. section where you can knit a base instead and sew this in the final step of the pattern.  It is not rigid but they still look cool (image at the bottom of this post).

The pattern uses Super Bulky/Super Chunky Yarn worked in stripes which gives a lovely texture.  Some knitted bowls can be quite loose, by using a base it helps give a solid neat professional finish.  Bowls made with the alternate finishing option have a softer look and feel to them but still have the structure to hold themselves due to the yarn and construction.

Knit them to match your home and room colours, they look great on tables and cabinets.  The pattern is for the medium and small bowl from the set, it does not include the large.

Pattern is a .pdf in colour with full instructional images.  Pattern available in my ravelry shop here.

The pattern could also be knitted in one colour if you prefer.  It knits up quickly and the finished result is a bowl/basket that’s completely covered so even the inside and the base look good too!.  Pattern is to cover the medium and small bowl or if making standalone baskets you will work the pattern and then knit the bases as shown here.

Written Colour pattern with detailed instructional images.  Available in my ravelry store here.

This image is the small bowl knitted without the IKEA Fryken basket and completed using the alternative finishing option.  It has a softer look to it but still a neat finish from the top and sides.

Images shown were knitted using Lion Brand Hometown (solids) Washington denim and Houston cream Super Bulky Yarn and Hayfield Bonus Super Chunky Yarn Black, Grey and White.  (Hayfield Yarn – stock images for information only)
