Denim Zipped Crossbody Phone Bag – Sewing Project Using Recycled Denim Jeans.

Denim Phone Crossbody Bag – Tutorial From YouTube

Completed Bag – This bag was made using denim from an old pair of jeans. The legs of the jeans were used for the front, back and side pieces. The star embellishment on the front using scraps of denim and the tabs cut from the waistband. This was done before construction and the lining was made using a fat quarter.

Tutorial – I followed a tutorial from YouTube, by searching for crossbody/phone bag there are plenty around, the link at the bottom of this post is for the one I based it on.

Conclusion/Notes – The finished bag is more than useable.  I did have some difficulty sewing the thickness and layers of denim and chose to do a fixed strap rather than an adjustable strap.  The tabs and bag hardware became to thick to attach to the sides with this particular way of construction, I used the waistband to make a shorter non-adjustable strap. If I make another in this style of bag I would probably make it with a separate lining or at least a different method of lining as the bag just got too bulky.  I’m sure there could be a better way of hiding the final seams, I used bias binding on mine but it did become quite thick and fiddly with the layers of denim.

I chose this tutorial because it had a neat finish to the bag. It gave clear instructions including fabric sizes, many don’t include this information or you have to buy a pattern.

The tutorial I based it upon is below.
