Denim Rabbit, recycled denim sewing project.

This denim rabbit was sewn using the legs from recycled jeans using Simplicity Pattern number S9441.

The pattern pieces were cut from two different colour legs.  If you were making the rabbit with normal fabric you would just fold a large piece and then face the pattern whichever way the instructions state but I only had smaller pieces to work with so some pieces had to be cut singularly.

Pattern pieces laid out on the legs as shown above.  I had legs from different jeans as I wanted a mixture of colours.  Sewn up as per the pattern, stuffed then hand sewn to close the seams.  I normally try and avoid hand sewing, 🙂 but they would not go under the machine after stuffing.

I had no problems sewing the layers of denim but made sure I had no seams on the edge of the pieces, I chose to run these down the centre of the head, ear and body for added interest.  I attached the legs and arms to the body sides using a shank button, long needle and a strong thread. I didn’t have a needle long enough to go straight through the body to attach them “amigurumi style”.

The pattern also has a bear and a dragon, I might do the dragon at a later date.  Its quite an enjoyable pattern even if it is a little short on instructions in some places, but I find that with alot of sewing patterns.  Overall I am pleased with the finished result and a great use of denim.
